FYL Playing Time Policy 2025 Spring Season

FYL believes that all youth lacrosse players need ample playing time during both practice and games to develop in a sport and to get the most enjoyment out of the game. Coaches will do their best to ensure that playing time is equitably distributed to all players during games. Coaches will provide the opportunity for athletes to play all positions to support development. Equitably distribution of playing will take into account the following factors: 

Athlete’s attendance at practice

Effort displayed at practice and games

Attitude

Respect for coaches, officials, opponents and teammates. 



Attendance + Effort + Attitude + Respect = Playing Time

Coaches will provide an opportunity to play at least half the game ensuring the aforementioned factors are fulfilled. There will be situations where equitable playing time is not feasible due to game situations (i.e. last 2 minutes of a game) or specialized groups like player-up or player-down.

If you have concerns or questions surrounding playing time please contact your team’s coach first. Further concerns regarding playing time may be escalated to the Boys Director and FYL Board.
